Innovations in Bulgarian agriculture: first steps towards EIP-AGRI

The first ever in Bulgaria international conference “Innovations in Bulgarian agriculture: first steps towards EIP-AGRI” presented the innovation opportunities for the Bulgarian agri-sector within the Common Agricultural Policy through its key approach European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural productivity and Sustainability (EIP-AGRI).

The Conference was organized by Institute for Agrostrategies and Innovations, Foundation for Organic Agriculture BIOSELENA and Trakia University - Faculty of Agriculture on 25 February 2016 in the Congress Center of the International Fair Plovdiv.

The event was officially opened by H.E. Guro Katharina H. Vikor, Ambassador of Norway to Bulgaria and Mr. Levon Hampartzoumian, Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit Bulbank, the general partner of the Conference.

“The future of the agriculture is in the innovations and the green economy”, said Svetlana Boyanova, Chairwoman of Institute for Agrostrategies and Innovations at the opening of the event.

Mr. Pacome Elouna Eyenga, Team leader of EIP Service Point to Agriculture General Directorate, European Commission made a presentation on the European Innovation Partnership “Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability”.

Mr. Emar Gemmeke, Counsellor Agriculture, Nature and Foods, Netherlands Embassy presented “Innovation and agriculture: Dutch solutions for agri-challenges”.

In their presentation „Innovation in agriculture - technology, utilization of resources and organizational models”, Mrs. Jorunn Tonnesen and Mr. Johan Ellingsen from Norges Vel, the oldest Norwegian NGO presented concrete examples for innovative thinking and acting, as well proven models for cooperation, exchange of information and experiences from different fields which are equally important as development of new equipment.

Dr. Stoilko Apostolov, Managing Director of BIOSELENA Foundation for Organic Farming and Prof. Radoslav Slavov, Agrarian Faculty, Trakia University presented (in Bulgarian) the achievements of the project „Energy Efficiency and Best Milk Quality Bulgarian Farms”, executed by BIOSELENA, Trakia University and Norges Vel with the financial support of Innovation Norway.

Mrs. Alexandra Gemiti and Mrs. Laura Bartalucci, Tuscan Region - Directorate "Agriculture and Rural Development", Sector "Consulting, training and innovation“ presented the example of setting-up the operational group in Tuscan region.

The German experience was presented by Mrs. Bettina Roha from the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture, German Network Unit for Rural Studies (DVS).

Maria Sao Luis Centeno, Head of Unit that coordinates the PT National Rural Network (NRN) presented “The implementation of the EIP-AGRI in Portugal - the NRN support”.

Mr. Anton Asparuhov, Director and Maya Ninova, expert in Rural Development Directorate, Ministry of Agriculture and Food (Bulgaria) presented the Operational Program for Rural Development and Measure 16, Cooperation (in Bulgarian).

The Conference was oriented to all members of the agri-food chain, especially farmers, processing companies, the scientific community, the NGO sector and the public administration.
